UX/UI feature redesign of mobile events app for socially-anxious users

PROBLEM
A startup company recently launched a product with the goal of helping users join activities in-person. The team found that only 20% of attendees showed up to the events they signed up for.
As the sole UX Designer, I had two goals:
Determine what feature(s) to add so that the # of attendees who commit to going matches the # of actual attendees
Encourage users who have social anxiety to step out and make new friends
SOLUTION
I conducted end-to-end research, design, and testing of new UX and UI features to address the project goals, resulting in 4 new features and new visual/brand elements:
a rewards system for using the app
an attendee matching system
check-in incentives
view/filter by social anxiety-relevant criteria
FINAL DESIGNS
Emerge incentivizes you to get out there. Attend events and earn points that unlock local rewards!
Complete an onboarding survey to get personalized recs on events. Filter events by socializing levels to match your energy.
If you want help making a friend, get matched with another event attendee. Emerge will help you break the ice and encourage you to check in once there.
